A professional writer with decades of experience, I can assimilate complex information and communicate it in plain English. This, plus my ability to effectively interview subject matter experts, has served my business well. Today, I write case studies, knowledge centre materials, and bid content.

I’m therefore familiar with areas such as project management, software development, SaaS, FinTech, and open-source products for ERP and LMS. Global clients welcome the fact I’m a conversational Spanish and French speaker.

With over 35 years of bidding and tendering experience, I do consider myself a bid writing expert. During my career I’ve helped many organisations win business across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. This has included multi-million-pound projects in road and rail infrastructure, waste, and marine activities.

I launched a company called Bid Academy in 2010, building it from zero to £250,000 turnover in three years. This saw me hosting a major seminar called ‘How to be a bid winner’. Supporting speakers and delegates came from businesses such as Balfour Beatty, Dragados, and London Underground.

My time as a bidding professional has made me an excellent all-rounder. I understand many business sectors and the various disciplines within them. I enjoy working closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver on their expectations by communicating complex information simply and clearly.

My wife and I relocated from the UK to Spain in 2023. We thoroughly enjoy life in this vibrant country, especially travelling to see new sights and cooking for friends and family when they visit.

I’ve been a bidmaster for over 20 years.  My bid graphic superpower is taking a rough pencil sketch and creating an impressive visual that clearly illustrates the point.

Having worked at Plain Design, a UK graphic design agency, for two decades (becoming MD in 2022), we have a longstanding partnership with Bid Masters and are experienced in all the sectors they typically support.

Once a proposal is written, I help to help break it up with visually beneficial imagery that helps the reviewer quickly see each question has been answered fully.  How a document looks is as important as how it reads.

At home, I have a continuous renovation project underway and a busy family life.  I’m also a Iyengar Yoga student, always striving to accomplish ‘Adho Mukha Vrksasana’

Over the last 15 years, I’ve supported blue chip companies with template design and document formatting for major projects, including rail franchises and infrastructure bids.

Always calm under pressure, I use Microsoft Word best practice to ensure total document consistency, using advanced techniques to produce bespoke, on-brand client templates.

Bid documents can be complex and formatting is often at the 11th hour. My specialist experience helps to bring everything together, so you submit a professional and compelling document, whatever the starting point.

I’ve also provided training for bid teams to share my knowledge and contribute to improving the quality of bid documents in many business sectors.

More recently, I’ve transitioned into bid manager consulting which is where my collaboration with BiD Masters formed. I also support my own clients across various industries.

Outside work, I love spending time with my partner walking our two dogs. Duke is a Bulldog and Teddy is a Frenchie cross Chow Chow. Together, they certainly keep us on our toes.

Having enjoyed a vibrant commercial career for 30 years, predominantly in aerospace and defence, I have an excellent grasp of what’s needed to create a compelling bid.  For 10 years, I held executive positions in BAE and Airbus, most recently as VP Procurement at Airbus.  Here, I led a team of more than 120 procurement professionals across Europe with an annual spend of 1.2Bn€.  My remit included leading teams preparing major bids, as well as those soliciting and negotiating proposals.

I’ve lived and worked in the UK, France, and Spain, while dealing with suppliers all over the world.  Working with BiD Masters, I’m well-placed to put this substantial experience to good use.

I’ve supported BiD Masters with graphic design for over 10 years now. This experience follows many design roles across a variety of companies, small and large. And earlier in my career I worked for larger organisations such as RATP, Hitachi, and Transdev.

My diverse graphic design experience has taught me to work fast, be organised, and always have attention to detail. Graphic work typically falls at the back end of a bidding project when the deadline is tight and we need to work at pace. I certainly rise to time-pressured challenges like this.

When not working, I love to travel in my VW campervan. Kitted out to keep me dry and warm, whatever the weather, I’ve visited many lovely destinations across the UK and have a list of others I plan to explore.

Another side of my career concerns helping to run the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, an all-female voluntary organisation established in 1907. This aligns with my early career when I served as an officer in the Royal Signals.
